Know Your Ride is a youth-led educational public safety initiative operated by Care Forward Foundation.

This Website Privacy Policy explains how Care Forward Foundation and Know Your Ride collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect information obtained through the public Know Your Ride website located at knowyourride.org, including its webpages, educational resources, interactive tools, forms, downloadable materials, and related website features.

In this Policy:

• “Know Your Ride,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Care Forward Foundation and the Know Your Ride program.
• “Website” refers to knowyourride.org and website features that link to this Policy.
• “Personal information” means information that identifies, relates to, describes, or could reasonably be associated with an identifiable person.
• “Service providers” means organizations that process information on our behalf to support website hosting, forms, communications, security, or similar operations.

This Policy applies only to the public informational website. It does not govern a future mobile application, ride-tracking service, rider account, rewards platform, or other separately launched service unless that service expressly links to this Policy.

The Website provides educational information concerning bicycles, e-bikes, electric two-wheelers, vehicle features, riding environments, rules, routes, safety considerations, purchasing questions, school discussions, family readiness, and community education.

The Website is informational only.

It does not provide:

• mechanical or engineering advice;
• emergency services;
• rider certification;
• vehicle certification;
• official legal classifications;
• professional safety assessments;
• insurance advice;
• individualized route approval;
• authorization to ride on any street, trail, campus, sidewalk, park, or property; or
• a guarantee that any vehicle, route, rider, product, or activity is lawful or safe.

The collection or processing of information through the Website does not create an attorney-client, medical, professional, fiduciary, advisory, school, supervisory, enforcement, or emergency-response relationship.

Use of the Website is also subject to the Know Your Ride Terms of Use and applicable disclaimers.

The information we collect depends on how a person uses the Website.

3.1 Information voluntarily submitted

We may receive information that a person chooses to provide through email, a website form, a linked form, or another direct communication.

This information may include:

• name;
• email address;
• organization or affiliation;
• general location, such as city or community;
• role, such as parent, educator, student, public-agency representative, community member, or partner;
• subject of an inquiry;
• message content;
• partnership or program interest;

3.3 Bike Check information

The Website may provide a Bike Check or similar interactive educational tool.

A user may enter or select information concerning:

• whether a vehicle has a motor;
• pedals;
• throttle operation;
• assisted or powered speed;
• motor labeling;
• wattage;
• operating modes;
• unlockable settings;
• vehicle characteristics;
• general rider details; and
• intended riding context.

The tool uses those responses to generate an educational result.

Know Your Ride does not intend to use Bike Check answers to identify a particular individual, create an official rider record, determine legal rights, make an enforcement decision, or certify a vehicle.

Users should not enter names, contact information, home addresses, school schedules, precise routes, medical information, or other identifying information into the Bike Check.

Routine technical information may still be processed by the Website and its hosting providers when the tool is used.

3.4 Parent Readiness pilot information

Know Your Ride has conducted a Parent Readiness pilot for educational and program-development purposes.

Information collected through a pilot form may have included:

• voluntary survey responses;
• knowledge or readiness answers;
• general parent or caregiver perspectives;
• optional contact information;
• completion information; and
• technical information processed by the form provider.

Pilot information may be used to evaluate the assessment, identify educational gaps, improve future resources, prepare aggregated findings, and support program planning.

Know Your Ride will not intentionally publish a participant’s name, email address, or other directly identifying information as part of public pilot findings unless the participant has given clear permission.

Aggregated or de-identified findings may be retained and used for educational, research, presentation, grant, program-development, or public-interest purposes.

3.5 Email and contact-form information

When a person contacts Know Your Ride, we may retain the message and related correspondence in order to:

• respond;
• maintain a record of the request;
• follow up when appropriate;
• manage a partnership or program inquiry;
• investigate a reported error;
• document consent or permission;
• address an accessibility concern;
• protect the organization’s legal rights; or
• comply with applicable law.

A linked form may be operated by a third-party form provider. Information entered into that form may be processed by that provider according to its own terms and privacy practices.

3.6 Information from public sources

Know Your Ride may collect information from publicly available sources for educational content, research, source verification, community stories, and product references.

Public-source information may include:

• government publications;
• laws and regulations;
• public-agency webpages;
• school or district materials;
• manufacturer specifications;
• publicly available professional contact information;
• publicly published event information;
• public statements;
• news or educational materials; and
• information supplied with permission for publication.

The appearance of publicly available information on the Website does not mean that Know Your Ride has verified every statement or that the person or organization referenced is a formal partner.

The Website is not designed to receive sensitive personal information, emergency reports, protected educational records, or detailed incident evidence.

Do not submit:

• any information that the person submitting it does not have authority to disclose.

Know Your Ride may delete, restrict, redact, preserve, or decline to review prohibited or unnecessary information.

Know Your Ride is not responsible for a user’s decision to submit information contrary to these instructions, except to the extent responsibility cannot legally be disclaimed.

Know Your Ride is not an emergency service, law-enforcement agency, school reporting system, insurance-reporting system, medical provider, complaint board, or incident-investigation service.

Do not submit emergency information through the Website or by email.

If there is an immediate danger, crash, injury, fire, battery fire, threat, crime in progress, or medical emergency, call 911 or contact the appropriate local emergency authority.

Sending information to Know Your Ride does not notify:

• emergency services;
• law enforcement;
• a school;
• a school district;
• a parent or guardian;
• a property owner;
• an insurer;
• a manufacturer;
• a government agency; or
• any organization referenced on the Website.

We do not guarantee that a message will be read or answered within any particular period.

Know Your Ride provides educational content relevant to families, students, and younger riders. However, Website forms and direct communications are intended to be completed by adults, including parents, guardians, educators, school representatives, government representatives, nonprofit representatives, or other responsible adults.

Children under 13 must not directly submit personal information through the Website.

Users under 18 should involve a parent or legal guardian before submitting personal information, stories, photographs, videos, survey responses, or other materials.

Know Your Ride does not knowingly request that a child under 13 create an account, submit a precise location, provide an email address, upload media, or provide other personal information through the Website.

If we learn that we have collected personal information directly from a child under 13 without appropriate authorization, we may take reasonable steps to delete it.

The federal COPPA Rule can apply to child-directed services that collect personal information and to general-audience services with actual knowledge that they are collecting personal information from a child under 13.

The Website is not intended to collect consumer health data, medical records, diagnoses, treatment information, mental-health information, biometric information, or information concerning a person’s health status.

Do not submit such information.

General educational information about helmets, injury prevention, readiness, charging safety, or riding practices is not intended to create a medical record or provide medical advice.

If health-related information is submitted without being requested, we may delete or restrict access to it where reasonably practicable.

Washington’s My Health My Data Act imposes specific obligations concerning certain consumer health data. Avoiding unnecessary collection is therefore particularly important.

We may use information collected through the Website to:

• generate an educational tool result;

We do not use Website information to make a legal determination concerning a rider or vehicle.

We do not use Website information to determine whether a person may ride, attend school, access a trail, receive insurance, obtain employment, receive credit, or receive another legally significant benefit.

The Bike Check and similar tools may apply preset educational logic to user-selected answers.

These results are informational only.

They do not constitute automated decision-making that determines a person’s legal rights, eligibility, access, discipline, insurance, education, employment, or other significant interests.

Know Your Ride, Care Forward Foundation, and organizations referenced or featured on the Website are not responsible for decisions a user makes based solely on an automated educational result.

Users must independently verify vehicle specifications, manufacturer information, applicable laws, school policies, park and trail rules, property rules, and local requirements.

We do not sell personal information for monetary compensation.

We may disclose limited information in the following circumstances.

10.1 Service providers

We may use service providers to support:

• website hosting;
• domain and network services;
• security;
• form processing;
• email delivery;
• file storage;
• technical support;
• analytics, if enabled;
• spam prevention; and
• related operational functions.

Service providers may process information only as necessary to provide their services, subject to their agreements, systems, and legal obligations.

10.2 At the user’s direction

10.3 Organizational personnel

Access should be limited according to role and need.

10.5 Organizational transition

If Know Your Ride or Care Forward Foundation undergoes a merger, restructuring, program transfer, fiscal-sponsorship change, asset transfer, dissolution, or similar organizational transition, relevant information may be transferred to an appropriate successor.

Any successor receiving personal information would be expected to use it consistently with applicable law and the commitments applicable at the time of transfer.

10.6 De-identified and aggregated information

We may use and disclose information that has been aggregated or reasonably de-identified so that it is not intended to identify a particular person.

This may include:

• general Website statistics;
• aggregated pilot findings;
• summary research findings;
• broad community trends;
• assessment-response patterns; and
• program-impact information.

The Website may link to or display services operated by third parties, including:

Know Your Ride does not control and, to the maximum extent permitted by law, is not responsible for:

• third-party data collection;
• third-party cookies or tracking;
• third-party account requirements;
• third-party security;
• third-party accessibility;
• third-party content;
• changes to third-party services;
• third-party retention practices;
• third-party advertising; or
• loss or harm arising from a user’s independent interaction with a third party.

A third-party link or embedded item is provided for convenience or education and does not itself constitute endorsement, sponsorship, approval, or partnership.

We may deny, limit, or delay a request where permitted or required by law, including when information must be retained for legal compliance, security, fraud prevention, recordkeeping, research integrity, consent documentation, dispute resolution, or protection of another person’s rights.

We are not required to reconstruct information that was never retained, identify an anonymous Website visitor, or delete aggregated or de-identified information that is not reasonably linked to the requester.

A person who submits a story, photograph, video, recording, quotation, testimonial, or other publication material represents that they have the authority to submit it.

Know Your Ride will not intentionally publish personally identifying material concerning a minor without appropriate permission.

A separate consent, release, interview confirmation, or media authorization may apply to publication.

A person may request that we stop future use of voluntarily submitted material. Removal may not be possible from:

• printed materials;
• completed reports;
• archived materials;
• previously published social-media posts;
• copies lawfully shared by others;
• public presentations already delivered;
• materials required for legal or grant records; or
• content that has been aggregated or de-identified.

When the Website links to a survey, assessment, or pilot activity, the form or accompanying notice may provide additional information about the activity.

• it is not a diagnostic assessment;

Know Your Ride and Care Forward Foundation do not guarantee that pilot findings are representative of all families, riders, schools, or communities.

Know Your Ride does not sell personal information for monetary compensation.

This Policy does not authorize users to rely on the Website as a substitute for official rules, professional advice, manufacturer instructions, adult supervision, mechanical inspection, training, emergency assistance, or an individualized safety evaluation.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Know Your Ride, Care Forward Foundation, and their directors, officers, personnel, volunteers, contributors, contractors, service providers, licensors, and authorized representatives are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, punitive, or consequential harm arising from:

• a user’s reliance on Website content;
• a user’s failure to verify official rules;
• a user’s failure to follow applicable laws or safety instructions;
• inaccurate information supplied by a user;
• a user’s submission of prohibited sensitive information;
• a user’s independent interaction with a third-party website;
• an unavailable or interrupted Website feature;
• an educational Bike Check result;
• outdated manufacturer or government information;
• third-party acts or omissions;
• unauthorized access despite reasonable safeguards; or
• conduct occurring outside our reasonable control.

Nothing in this Policy excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, waives a right that cannot lawfully be waived, or excuses Know Your Ride or Care Forward Foundation from complying with applicable privacy and consumer-protection law.

No city, county, school, school district, public agency, law-enforcement agency, nonprofit organization, community organization, manufacturer, retailer, interview participant, sponsor, funder, or other person or entity referenced on the Website is responsible for:

• operating the Website;
• reviewing every Website statement;
• verifying every Bike Check result;
• supervising Website users;
• guaranteeing user compliance;
• responding to messages submitted to Know Your Ride;
• providing emergency services through the Website;
• protecting information submitted directly to Know Your Ride; or
• harm arising solely from a person’s use of or reliance on Know Your Ride content.

This provision does not alter the independent legal responsibilities of any third party for its own conduct, systems, events, statements, or services.

Know Your Ride is based in Washington State, United States, and is primarily intended for users in the United States, particularly Washington families, riders, schools, and communities.

A person accessing the Website from another jurisdiction understands that information may be processed in the United States.

We do not represent that the Website or this Policy satisfies the laws of every country or jurisdiction.

We may revise this Policy when Website features, information practices, legal requirements, or organizational operations change.

The “Last Updated” date will identify the latest version.

When appropriate, we may provide additional notice of a material change through the Website.
